Dubai,TNM: — Five-time Major champion Rory McIlroy will be making his much-anticipated debut in India this October as he confirms participation in the inaugural DP World India Championship, scheduled to be held at the Delhi Golf Club from October 16 to 19, 2025.
The prestigious USD 4 million tournament marks a significant milestone for Indian golf, as it welcomes one of the sport’s most celebrated players. McIlroy, currently ranked World No. 2, expressed his excitement about competing in India for the first time.
“I’m excited to not only tee it up in India for the first time but also visit a country that I’ve always wanted to explore,” McIlroy said. “I’m proud to play in the inaugural DP World India Championship. I’ve always enjoyed playing a global schedule and as I have previously said, there is tremendous potential to grow golf further in the country. This is a great opportunity, and I can’t wait to play in front of Indian golf fans.”
McIlroy’s appearance in India follows a landmark year in his career, having ended a decade-long major title drought by winning the Masters earlier this year—completing the modern career Grand Slam. The Northern Irishman is only the sixth player in history to achieve this feat and the first European to do so.
The 36-year-old first rose to major prominence with his win at the 2011 U.S. Open, followed by victories at the 2012 and 2014 PGA Championships, and the 2014 Open Championship. Over his career, he has spent a cumulative 100 weeks as World No. 1.
The DP World India Championship is part of the expanding DP World Tour and marks a new chapter for international golf in India. With McIlroy’s presence, the tournament is expected to draw significant global attention and galvanize interest in golf across the country.
