India’s Dominance Continues

With this victory, India maintained an unbeaten record throughout the tournament, reaffirming their dominance in global cricket. Their previous Champions Trophy wins came in 2002 (shared with Sri Lanka) and 2013.

The final witnessed moments of high tension, especially when India lost two quick wickets while cruising at 183 for three after 38 overs. However, KL Rahul’s steady 34 off 33 balls and Hardik Pandya’s brisk 18-run cameo ensured a successful chase with six balls to spare.

Clinical Bowling Performance

Opting to bowl first after losing his 12th consecutive toss, Rohit Sharma relied on India’s spin attack to restrict New Zealand to 251/7 in 50 overs. Kuldeep Yadav (2/40) and Varun Chakaravarthy (2/45) played pivotal roles in limiting the Black Caps' batting effort.

New Zealand’s innings was anchored by Daryl Mitchell (63 off 101 balls), Michael Bracewell (an unbeaten 53 off 40 balls), and Rachin Ravindra (37 off 29 balls), but they struggled to accelerate against India’s disciplined attack.

Key Performances in the Chase

India’s chase began confidently, with Rohit Sharma leading from the front with a well-compiled 76 off 83 balls, supported by Shreyas Iyer, who contributed a valuable 48 off 62 balls. Despite a mid-innings stutter, the lower middle order ensured a composed finish, steering India to 254/6.

For New Zealand, Mitchell Santner (2/46) and Michael Bracewell (2/28) tried to turn the game in their favor, but India’s depth in batting proved too strong.

A Historic Achievement

India’s latest Champions Trophy victory sets them apart as the only team to win the prestigious tournament three times. The win not only cements their place in history but also reinforces their stature as a dominant force in world cricket.
