Dubai,TNM: Dubai Municipality has earned top honours at the prestigious International Association for Food Protection (IAFP) Awards, where Dubai Central Laboratory was awarded first place in the "Food Safety" category. This global recognition highlights the Municipality’s continued leadership in strengthening health and food safety standards and reinforces Dubai’s position at the forefront of scientific innovation in laboratory testing.
The award acknowledges Dubai Municipality’s efforts in developing microbiological analysis laboratories and applying cutting-edge testing technologies that enhance the accuracy, speed, and reliability of food safety inspections. These efforts have resulted in a 60% reduction in processing time for laboratory tests, enabling faster decision-making, improving food quality controls, and safeguarding public health.
Eng. Hind Mahmoud Ahmed, Director of the Dubai Central Laboratory Department at Dubai Municipality, noted that the achievement reflects the Municipality’s proactive approach to enhancing the efficiency and adaptability of laboratory systems in response to the evolving challenges of the global food industry.
“We have succeeded in integrating advanced testing mechanisms, including technologies for detecting Legionella bacteria in drinking water — reducing testing time from 14 days to just two — as well as DNA detection for pork content in food products,” said Eng. Hind. “These innovations significantly enhance regulatory accuracy and ensure compliance with halal standards, reinforcing Dubai’s leadership in setting exemplary food safety benchmarks.”
The IAFP Award recognises international efforts to advance food protection and innovation in laboratory testing. Dubai Municipality’s win affirms its commitment to improving quality of life by ensuring public health and food security throughout the food supply chain.
